ABOUT US
The Angola Elasmo Project was created to fill a critical knowledge gap regarding elasmobranchs (sharks and rays) along the Angolan coast, particularly in the Namibe province. Small-scale coastal and semi-industrial fisheries operate dynamically but largely unregulated, contributing to the significant capture of these organisms. Despite their ecological importance, until recently there was a lack of systematic data on species, abundance, distribution, and maturity, as well as on the pressure exerted by human activities.
IMPACT AND GOALS
Since the start of our activities, the project has recorded more than 50,000 elasmobranch individuals, encompassing species of high ecological and commercial value. This data includes biometric measurements, sex, maturity stage, type of fishing gear, and photographic and genetic documentation, allowing for robust analyses of population, spatial distribution, and population trends.
PARTNERS
We are honored to collaborate with organizations and institutions dedicated to marine conservation, as well as with companies committed to sustainable practices. Together, we work to ensure a healthy future for the oceans and the communities that depend on them.

HOW TO HELP
The Angola Elasmo Project is an initiative focused on the conservation of sharks and rays in Angola since 2016. Our team is composed of dedicated volunteers who share a passion for protecting the oceans. In addition to participating in events with the UN, Greenpeace, Sharksproject, and the Save Our Seas Foundation, we are committed to creating the first marine-focused database in Angola.
We would appreciate your help, whether by making a donation or purchasing one of our products available in our online store.
